The perimenopause is a time of transition in women when we get towards the end of our child bearing age. We are still having periods, although they may be changing in frequency and flow. This transition can last for 10 years or so.
The menopause has been described the Autumn of a Woman’s life. Autumn is a beautiful season and a time to take stock. So why does it feel like the winter of discontent?
Its more than just Periods
It is incredible how little we know as women about the intricacies of our reproductive systems.
We tend to be taught that when we start our periods, we can get pregnant, and then perhaps when we Strat to try, it doesn’t always happen as easily as we were led to believe.
And then we know that we will hit the menopause which may involve hot flashes and our periods will stop.
Mind and Body
Our mind and body connection is amazing, our brain controls our hormonal system and is able to divert hormones when needed in reaction to situations physically and emotionally. These diversions result in physical and psychological symptoms.
An incredibly complex and sophisticated control room
Did you know that other hormonal functions can be affected, especially our stress hormone producers, why lay fat down around the middle? Why sleep is affected?
Well, there are reasons for all of this, and it’s important to understand. As when we understand we gain control of our response.
When we know what we can do, we gain control. It starts to make sense of the choices available to us, as long as we know what’s available of course.
