The Retreat Day in Nottinghamshire provides women with information relating to what is happening within their hormonal system, the natural process and what may exacerbate symptoms. When we know how our bodies are designed, what is happening at this time of transition, it makes making changes easier. Also it is enlightening to everyone as to why what is happening is.
It is a time for women to set aside time for themselves and to explore what they are experiencing and gain an understanding of what is happening within them. This ability to look inward rather than outwardly for a fix is empowering to many and also reassuring, that it is biology. Many women love the science!
This is a time when women don't feel in control and the day aims to show that they can take control of the factors that might be affecting or exacerbating symptoms.
The day starts with a discussion of symptoms and what is amazing every time is how every woman realises that they are sharing the same experiences, they are not alone and this feeling of being in it together continues throughout the day.
We start to unpick what is happening within the body, how hormone levels are changing and what the body does to compensate and how tis has a knock on effect on other systems, particularly anxiety, sleep disturbance, weight gain and fatigue, as well as hot flashes (did you know that there isn't a direct translation of this in Japenese? as traditionally women in Japan tend not to experience hot flashes? diet is a key factor)
It's amazing every time how this information is something new, something that no one knew. That the menopause is lead into via the peri menopause and it can be a gentle transition, a shift in gears into the autumn of a womans life. It doesnt have to be the winter of discontent and this information is empowering
Within this safe space, sharing common ground, we look at how diet, chemical exposure, stress are affecting what we are experiencing and what we can do
